Thorough explanation of the charm of Kobe Sauna ~ A must-visit authentic facility for sauna enthusiasts ~
Located in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, “Kobe Sauna” is a highly acclaimed sauna facility both domestically and internationally. It is known as the only official facility certified by the Finnish Sauna Society in Japan. In this first installment of the blog series by Seaside Hotel Maiko Villa Kobe and Safi Spa Maiko, we focus on introducing the features and facilities of Kobe Sauna.
Authentic Facility Certified by the Finnish Sauna Society
Kobe Sauna is the only facility in Japan officially certified by the Finnish Sauna Society. In the main sauna, a “löyly” (heat wave) service is provided approximately every 20 minutes, one of the highest frequencies in Japan. In the outdoor area, there is a log cabin-style “Finnish Sauna” made of pine wood. Here, visitors can enjoy self-löyly, experiencing an authentic Finnish sauna atmosphere.
These unique features have earned high praise from specialized sauna review organizations such as Sauna Schuran, gaining support from sauna lovers and visitors both domestically and internationally.
Salt Sauna Reminiscent of a Silver World and Its Benefits
The salt sauna on the men’s floor of Kobe Sauna is uniquely equipped with a large mound of natural salt in the center, as well as salt spread across the floor, creating a fantastic atmosphere reminiscent of a “silver world” that captivates visitors.
While typical salt saunas often use low-temperature mist between 40°C and 60°C, Kobe Sauna’s salt sauna is set to a relatively high temperature of 85°C, promoting thorough perspiration. The salt gently dissolves on the skin, maximizing detoxification, skin beautifying, and moisturizing effects.
The women-only Kobe Ladies Spa features a salt sauna using rose salt, which is also one of its highly popular attractions.
Memorable 11.7°C Cold Bath and Outdoor Air Relaxation
The main cold bath in the open-air area of Kobe Sauna is maintained at a constant temperature of 11.7°C throughout the year. This temperature symbolizes January 17th (1/17), the date of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, representing a message to never forget the disaster and to honor the spirit of recovery.
Despite its central location in Sannomiya, the open-air space with a high ceiling offers a refreshing atmosphere. The combination of gentle outdoor air bathing and cold water allows visitors to achieve a perfect state of relaxation, highly praised among sauna enthusiasts.
Extensive Facilities and Hospitality
The facility includes natural hot spring open-air baths and various spa amenities, with user-friendly designs such as water servers placed for easy hydration. Amenities are well provided, and massage services are also available, reflecting meticulous attention to visitor comfort.
Additionally, Kobe Sauna operates 24 hours a day with excellent access. It is located just a 5-minute walk from Sannomiya Station on multiple lines, making it highly convenient for both business and sightseeing. The capsule rooms feature Tempur mattresses, offering a comfortable stay. Check-out time is set at 12:00 noon the following day, allowing for a relaxed and extended stay.
Summary
Kobe Sauna is a sauna facility distinguished by the trust of Finnish Sauna Society certification, highly frequent löyly services, authentic Finnish-style sauna, unique silver salt sauna, and an impressive 11.7°C cold bath. Furthermore, its comprehensive facilities and hospitality create an environment that satisfies all visitors.
In the Safi Spa Maiko blog, we will continue to introduce notable sauna facilities within Hyogo Prefecture and beyond, as well as sauna destinations worldwide. Please look forward to future posts.
